After the success of its 2 previous editions since 2012, the annual international cycling event: the International Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen 2014 will again highlight the Banyuwangi Regency in East Java province from 16th to 19th October 2014.
The international sport tourism event forms part of the series of events in the Banyuwangi Festival that is aimed at promoting this east-most regency of Java Island, dubbed "the Sunrise of Java".
This year, the International Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen will cover 4 stages covering a total distance of 622Km across 24 subdistricts of Bayuwangi.
Cyclists will be competing for the total prize of IDR700 million in several categories including: General Individual Classifications (Yellow Jersey), Sprint Clasiification (Green Jersey), Best Indonesia Rider(White Jersey), and the King of Mountain (Red Jersey).
The first stage will take cyclists from the Pendopo Kabupaten through ascending tracks at the foot of the Ijen Crater and on to the finish line at the beautiful Pulau Merah Beach.
Covering the course of 100km, the second stage will be dominated by flat tracks along the southern part of Banyuwangi. Here racers will ride among lush green paddy fields and winding rivers from Jajag Bus Station to Maron Field, Genteng.
Dubbed as the "hell stage", the third and longest stage covers a total of 201.7 km through some of the most challenging tracks of the competition. Starting from Muncar, cyclists will be presented with the challenging task of conquering the slopes of Mount Ijen that are considered some of the most extreme cycling ascending tracks in Asia. Guaranteed to challenge the skill and stamina of competing cyclists, this stage ends at Paltuding,Ijen. In the 4th stage, cyclists will again compete on a flat track for 140.5km from Kalibaru to the town hall of Banyuwangi. In this final stage cyclists will compete in a 15 laps circuit of the 5 km track across the town of Banyuwangi.
