The spectacular Lake Toba in North Sumatra will again be highlighted with festivities this year as the annual Lake Toba Festival is set to take place from 19 to 22 November 2015 in Berastagi with Mt. Sinabung as bacground.
The festival aims to boost North Sumatra's most famous tourist destination onto the world stage to attract more visitors and help increase Lake Toba's popularity as a world-class geopark and tourist destination.
Lake Toba Festival will feature a variety of cultural and art performances as well as sports tourism activities such as the Ulos (specific hand-woven cloths of the Batak region) Carnival, the Geopark Carnival and Solu Bolon (royal boat) races. In arts, there will be a Batak singing competition and a photography competition. The Batak are famous for their beautiful and powerful voices. Other Indonesian artists will also present a fashion show, seminars and music performances.
Aiming to attract at least 2,000 visitors during the festival, Lake Toba's visitors will be presented with some of the most fascinating cultural features of the Batak ethnic group living around Lake Toba and the stunning Samosir Island such as the Tortor Dance and the intricate art of Ulos weaving.
As a tourist destination, the government together with investors and tourism stakeholders will revitalize the Lake Toba tourist area in tandem with developing 9 other regions in Indonesia that are aimed to grow into world-class destinations.
